Help Make Overnight Summer Camp Accessible for ALL Children Support SCOPE

Run for SCOPE

On Sunday, November 3, 2024 Team SCOPE ran all 26.2 miles of the NYC Marathon across the 5 boroughs while making a difference and being cheered on by SCOPE supporters along the way. Together, $28,000 was raised; 19 more children whose families otherwise could not afford it, are going to overnight summer camp next summer because of our amazing accomplishment. THANK YOU!

Joey Baez

Joey is running his FIRST MARATHON!!!

Seventeen years ago, Joey was reintroduced to summer camp by his friend who LOVED IT. Joey didn’t think he would like it at first, but went anyway as a Theatre Director. FAST FORWARD to today, and Joey am still at that same camp.

Camp IHC in Northeastern PA has been Joey’s summer home for close to two decades. He has grown to learn so much about myself and how to forge my way in this crazy world.

Every year Joey is challenged to become a kinder, stronger, giving person. He has been given so many opportunities to learn, explore and even fail. Joey decided to focus on his health and well-being, so he took up running. And he made it his goal last summer to run the NYC Marathon this year!!! Joey is grateful to SCOPE for this opportunity.

Joey is so excited and humbled to continue his fitness journey by running for this amazing organization that works to introduce so many young people to the amazing gift of summer camp.

Tom Coffey

Originally from the South of England, Tom has been working and involved in the camp world since the summer of 2006. Nearly 20 years later, along with his wife, Brigid, who he met at camp, and their two young children, Philippa/Pippa, 7, and Francis/Frankie, 4, he has made New York and Southampton Camp & Club, the camp he has been director of for the past 12 summers his home.

Passionate about the impact of camp, Tom has been heavily involved volunteering for the NY/NJ American Camp Association over the last 10 years, most recently as Program Chair for the NY/NJ ACA Tri-State Camp Conference, the world’s largest camp conference, a position he will hold for the next 3 years.

As an advocate for believing all children should have the opportunity to attend and experience summer camp, running the NYC Marathon, raising money and supporting SCOPE, a charity that promotes positive, life changing experiences though sending children from under-resourced communities to summer camp, was an opportunity that Tom couldn’t be more excited & enthusiastic about.

Despite never having run a marathon before, Tom is motivated to take on this ultimate challenge and support such a worthy cause on the day of his birth, November 3.

Thank you in advance for your donations, support and signs along the route (the more signs the better!), and Tom looks forward to celebrating and sharing a birthday drink (or hydrating H2O) and a slice of birthday cake at the finishing line with anyone interested!

Taran Kennedy

Taran’s two biggest jobs in life are being husband to Jerrica and father to Rowan. He is an educator who believes in the benefits of physical movement, that we all can move, and that life is better when we move. Taran’s so excited to be taking part in quite a bit of movement in the NYC Marathon to promote SCOPE. Professionally, he works for Camp IHC with the Hill Camp (Teenage) program. The development and growth that Taran’s seen year after year with these campers spending 7 weeks at IHC continues to inspire him. Taran choses to run the marathon with the hope of raising funds to send more and more kids to summer camp – and to do something hard. He wants to prove to his current campers, and to his little girl Rowan, that it’s okay to do hard things.

Foster Lattman

Foster was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, where sports became more than a pastime; rather, they were a way of life! Growing up playing baseball, football, and golf, being outside is a major part of Foster’s everyday life. Although never a runner for distance, in-fact quite the opposite, there is a passionate athlete inside him that is excited for a chance to run a marathon!

In 2015, Foster stumbled upon Trail’s End Camp, where he became a counselor in the summer after his freshman year of college. He continued coming back to camp, taking on new roles and challenges through the years. Foster had a covid graduation in the summer of 2020, leaving school with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and Finance. Upon graduation, Foster joined the Trail’s End team full-time and moved to New York in the spring of 2021.

Settling in Long Beach for his first year in New York, staying close to his beachy roots in FL, before making the leap to move to Manhattan, where he has lived the past two years. Along the way, there is one thing that hasn’t changed and that is Foster’s love and passion for camp.

This passion has led Foster to get more involved with SCOPE over the past couple of years, volunteering his time and effort on the Associate Board to help as many children get the camp experience, he believes they should all have.

Joey Siegel

Joey Siegel is 23-years-old and beyond excited to run her first marathon. She’s been dreaming about running the NYC marathon since hearing her mom’s stories about when she ran it when she was Joey’s age. When Joey ran on her middle school track team, her mom brought her to NYC to cheer at the marathon on a cold November morning, and right then and there Joey was inspired to add this to her list of “one-days”.

Joey is honored to be running this race while also fundraising for a cause so special to her. Joey was basically born and raised at Tyler Hill Camp, spending every summer there from when she was 4-months-old to when she became a Color War General. While growing up, she had the opportunity to volunteer and get involved in SCOPE, even earning the Ben Appelbaum Advocate for Youth Award at age 13! After graduating from the University of Michigan last spring (Go Blue!), she recently moved to NYC and started her full-time career in advertising. Central Park has become her favorite place in NYC and it’s where she realized that she loved to run. She is looking forward to training in the park during the weekdays and at Tyler Hill on the weekends!

Nikki Zenkel Grossman

Nikki has always had camp in her blood! As a lifelong camper and counselor, Nikki is now a Director at Point O’Pines Camp for Girls, alongside her husband Max Grossman. POP is an all-girls, traditional, 7-week sleepaway in Brant Lake, NY. During the winter months, Nikki resides with her husband Max in Old Greenwich, CT.

Running the New York City marathon has always been a dream of Nikki’s. Nikki is a member of the SCOPE Associate Board and is passionate about giving all children the opportunity to attend summer camp, regardless of their financial means. Nikki is so excited to take part in this amazing experience with Team SCOPE and cannot wait to send more deserving children to summer camp as a result!

When not training for the marathon, Nikki can be found at country music concerts, trying new restaurants in NYC, or playing with her family’s golden retriever, Casper.
