Big Cycle Challenge
This June 2026, SCOPE supporter Harry Haman will take on an extraordinary endurance challenge: a 3,000-kilometer cycling journey across southern Africa, riding from Namibia’s west coast to South Africa’s east coast. Along the way, Harry will traverse Botswana, the Okavango Delta, and Eswatini while climbing more than 55,000 feet of elevation. His route will take him across gravel roads, mountain passes, desert terrain, savannah landscapes, and even game parks. This is not just a bike ride. It is a true test of endurance, resilience, and determination. And every kilometer will be ridden in support of SCOPE.
Every year, SCOPE provides children from under-resourced communities with access to life-changing summer camp experiences. At camp, children gain the space to explore new interests, develop confidence, build friendships, and discover what they are capable of achieving. Your support helps make those opportunities possible.
Every donation helps fund a summer camp experience and supports the long-term programs that keep students engaged in school and moving toward future success. As Harry pedals across Africa this summer, each kilometer represents something bigger than the journey itself. It represents opportunity. It represents growth. And it represents brighter futures for the children SCOPE serves.
About SCOPE
SCOPE (Summer Camp Opportunities Promote Education) funds overnight summer camp experiences for children who would otherwise not have access to them. Through its Camp to Classroom to College to Career model, SCOPE supports students beyond their summer experience, helping them stay engaged in school and build pathways toward brighter futures.

Meet Harry
Harry Haman is an adventure enthusiast and longtime camp professional who believes deeply in the power of the camp experience. His life is split between working at sea, undertaking extreme expeditions, and returning each summer to the place he cares most about: camp. Harry has taken on remarkable adventures around the world, including ultra-distance kayaking through Antarctica’s ice-covered waters and completing a self-powered, multi-sport crossing of Panama. This coast-to-coast cycling journey across Africa will be his most ambitious challenge yet.
Harry’s connection to SCOPE comes through his work at Camp Westmont, where he first joined the staff in 2018 as a waterfront specialist and later became a group leader. Through those summers, he witnessed firsthand the impact camp can have on young people. Camp provides an environment where children build confidence, develop resilience, strengthen social skills, and discover leadership abilities they did not know they had. These are the same transformative experiences that SCOPE works to make possible for children from under-resourced communities.
Harry chose to dedicate this ride to SCOPE because he has seen the power of camp in action. But this time, the journey is about more than adventure.

Youth, teens, young professionals, and families can create meaningful, impactful, and fun initiatives to raise funds and awareness for SCOPE!
