On April 20, the Midwest Region had the privilege to hear Tyler’s camp story at the 2018 SCOPE Midwest Benefit. Tyler’s experience vividly demonstrates the lasting impact that camp and the support of SCOPE has made on him and his family through the stories he shared:
“For me, House In The Wood is a tradition in my family: my mother, two uncles, aunt and maybe my grandparents went to House In The Wood for many years. They are the reasons why I go every year. My family talks about House In The Wood, how they made friends and had these wonderful experiences to this day… But for them to recall the events that took place like it was yesterday, is extraordinary.”
Summer camp fosters: growth, leadership skills, camaraderie, and responsibility and consequently provides assistance and life-long lessons for campers. Throughout Tyler’s camp years, he has been able to gain new experiences and perspectives that were not afforded to him prior to attending camp because of the campership support he receives from SCOPE. Camp also allows children to escape reality and be themselves, “[At home] my mom would never allow me to play outdoors by myself… however, at House In The Wood Camp I have the ability to play outdoors all day in a safe environment.”
